HVAC Contractors by City
How to Read These Lists
Each city list includes only registrations whose status is ACTIVE in the L&I file dated Oct 30, 2026. Smaller markets such as Seattle, Spokane often have fewer than a hundred registered hvac contractors, which makes it quicker to compare every option.
Not every Washington city has a list yet: we publish a city once it has enough active registrations to be useful, and add more cities in stages.
How HVAC Contractors Are Licensed in Washington
Businesses that install or service heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment for others register with L&I as construction contractors under RCW chapter 18.27, under the HVAC/R specialty. Registration brings a bond and liability insurance requirement, and our lists show both for every business.
Registration
Our HVAC lists include businesses whose L&I specialty is Heating/Vent/Air-Conditioning and Refrig (HVAC/R). Some HVAC companies register as general contractors instead; any business can be checked on L&I Verify.
Bond and Insurance
A specialty registration requires a $15,000 surety bond (RCW 18.27.040) and general liability insurance (RCW 18.27.050); a general contractor needs a $30,000 bond. If either lapses, the registration cannot stay active.
Electrical Work
Wiring that connects furnaces, heat pumps and other equipment is electrical work regulated under RCW chapter 19.28, which has its own contractor licensing. Ask whether the HVAC company also holds an electrical contractor license or who will do the wiring.

Our HVAC lists cover the Washington cities with enough active HVAC/R registrations to be useful. Businesses elsewhere still appear on L&I Verify, so search there if your contractor is not listed.
